Police in Kampala have arrested Anthony Katongole, popularly known as “Chicken Chicken,” in connection with the alleged malicious damage of a vehicle belonging to socialite Sally Sharif, commonly known as Shawa Shawa.
The arrest follows the circulation of a viral video on social media that allegedly shows Katongole vandalising a Toyota Mark X, registration number UBM 696B, owned by Sharif.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala, the incident occurred at around 3 a.m. on June 25, 2026, in the parking area of Akamwesi Mall in Kawempe Division, Kampala.
“Police in Kawempe have arrested Anthony Katongole, also known as Chicken Chicken, in connection with a case of malicious damage following a viral video that allegedly shows him damaging a Toyota Mark X belonging to Sally Sharif, also known as Shawa Shawa,” Kawala said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, together with several accomplices who are still at large, allegedly smashed the vehicle’s windscreen and caused extensive damage before fleeing the scene.
Kawala said the suspect is currently being held in police custody and is assisting investigators as efforts intensify to track down the remaining suspects.
“The suspect is currently in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations. We strongly condemn acts of lawlessness and wish to remind the public that such conduct will not be tolerated,” she added.
The arrest has attracted widespread public attention following the circulation of the video across social media platforms, with many users calling for swift action against those responsible.
Police said investigations are ongoing and assured the public that all individuals implicated in the incident would be brought to justice.
Authorities have urged members of the public to resolve disputes through lawful means and refrain from engaging in acts that destroy property or threaten public order.
